For a “Christmas Present”, I got an outdated and somewhat broken HP Deskjet 520 for salvage. What I ended up with was a brushed DC motor, a stepper motor, a few circuit boards, 2 very nice steel rods, and the printer’s power supply (~10-0-10).
P.S. Merry Christmas!
P.P.S I know I’m posting this after Christmas.
The control panel on the printer.
The rather strange power suppply
The printer with it’s cover off.
This is off-topic, but I got new screwdrivers!
Some circuit boards on the bottom.
I got the bottom off of the printer.
A nice big motor was exposed!
The “Motherboard” of the printer.
The circuit board that most likely rectifies the power and distributes it.
Some more plastic taken off the printer exposes more parts!
That large motor removed
Where the ink cartrige used to be.
A drive belt and pully.
One steel bar with the print head thing on it.
The printer is running low on parts!
This steel rod has many rollers on it.
The gear at the end of the steel rod.
The stepper motor!
This is so cool. What do you do with all the parts once you take it apart?

I’m not entirely sure. Some day I will use them for a project, but for now the parts have been sorted in a bin, awaiting use.

I have an old Mac SE SDFD computer along with a HP DeskWriter 520 printer I bought years ago for the Mac. I have been starting and running the SE but I can’t find the power cord for the printer.
I think it would be the same cord as you have there for the DeskJet 520 and I was wondering if you would consider selling it. Could you maybe send me a few more pictures of the cord and plugs so I might see if it could fit the printer I have. Thanks for your consideration.

Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately this is an old post, and I don’t have that power supply anymore. I probably gave it away one time when I was cleaning out the shop. Sorry!

That is OK, thanks for checking on that. I enjoy reading your posts as I am 74 and when I was your age I had very similar interest in mechanical and electrical things. I started computer programming in Fortran in the early 1970’s on an IBM 1130 and I am still programming for websites. My home website is http://www.glacierwebcreative.com Your posts are fun to read. Do you plan to continue?

I do plan to continue posting on this website. I forgot about it for a while, but I’m interested in it again. I’ve expanded my interests over the past year, so I think I’ll be posting some different stuff along with the electronics posts. During winter there aren’t many estate sales, so I think there won’t be as many electronics posts (because I get most of my electronics from them). I’ll give the site a renovation, and then start posting again. Thank you for your interest in my website!

I meant that the computer is a Mac SE FDHD (can read 1.44 mb HD floppy drives)
